Open-source GPU-accelerated terminal emulator focused on speed, simplicity, and cross-platform performance using OpenGL rendering.
Alacritty is an open-source GPU-accelerated terminal emulator designed for speed, performance, and simplicity across Linux, BSD, macOS, and Windows. Built in Rust and powered by OpenGL rendering, Alacritty focuses on delivering a fast and lightweight terminal experience with minimal input latency and high throughput for developers, system administrators, and power users. Instead of reimplementing every terminal feature internally, Alacritty integrates well with external tools such as tmux, window managers, and shell environments, following a Unix philosophy of modularity and efficiency. The terminal emulator provides extensive configuration support through TOML-based configuration files while maintaining sensible defaults for everyday usage. Alacritty supports modern terminal workflows, GPU rendering acceleration, Unicode rendering, configurable key bindings, custom themes, and advanced terminal features while remaining lightweight and highly responsive. The project is written in Rust and distributed under the Apache License 2.0 with active cross-platform development and community support.
