Open source peer-to-peer file transfer app, send files directly between devices with end-to-end encryption, no accounts, no cloud storage, and no size limits.
AlterSend lets you send files directly between your own devices without routing them through a cloud server. There are no accounts, no signups, and no email required, files transfer peer-to-peer and are end-to-end encrypted the entire way, with nothing ever stored remotely. Because there's no upload step, there's no practical file size limit, whether you're sending a small photo or a 500GB archive. The app is built on Hyperswarm, a Kademlia DHT, so devices rendezvous using a hash of a randomly generated join code rather than exposing the code itself; the raw key never leaves your device. Peers connect over a Noise-encrypted socket and exchange files through Hyperdrive, with public bootstrap nodes used only for initial discovery, not as a relay. Devices can be paired once so future transfers skip the join code entirely, with pairing secrets kept in your OS keychain. AlterSend is cross-platform, available on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, with a fully translated UI in 12 languages. It's built with Electron and React Native/Expo, and the entire codebase is open source under Apache-2.0.
