Back to HomePrivacy-aware command-line bookmark manager with a portable, mergeable database, powerful search, and an optional local web UI.
buku is a command-line bookmark manager built as a text-based mini-web, storing bookmarks in a private, portable, mergeable SQLite database with no tracking, hidden history, or usage analytics. It can auto-import bookmarks directly from Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Vivaldi (including Internal), Brave, and Edge, or fetch a URL's title, tags, and description from the web when adding manually. Bookmarks can be added, edited, or updated through a preferred text editor, searched instantly with multiple modes (substring, ALL/ANY keyword matching, regex, tag-based, field-specific markers, deep substring scanning), and exported to or imported from HTML, XBEL, Markdown, RSS/Atom, Orgfile, or another buku database. It supports smart tag management via redirection operators, manual database encryption, multi-threaded full-database refresh, shell completion for Bash/Fish/Zsh, and a rich man page. A companion project, bukuserver, exposes a browsable local web front-end with an HTTP API for personal use, and buku itself can also be used as a Python library. Other notable features include looking up broken links via the Wayback Machine and an Easter egg for revisiting random bookmarks.
