Open-source Loom alternative for beautiful screen recordings, instant sharing, team collaboration, and self-hosted video workflows.
Cap is an open-source screen recording and video sharing platform built for individuals and teams that want full ownership of their data and workflows. Designed as a privacy-focused alternative to Loom, Cap combines fast screen capture, local editing, instant sharing, team collaboration tools, analytics, AI-powered summaries, transcripts, and self-hosting capabilities. It supports both instant cloud-upload recordings and local studio editing modes with trimming, captions, zooms, and export controls. Built using Rust, Tauri, SolidStart, Next.js, and TypeScript, Cap provides desktop applications for macOS and Windows alongside a web dashboard for managing recordings, comments, and collaboration. Users can host recordings locally, use custom S3-compatible storage providers, connect custom domains, or fully self-host the entire platform using Docker Compose. Cap also supports AI-generated titles, chapters, captions, summaries, analytics, and migration tools for importing Loom libraries.
