About Capptivo

Capptivo is a free, open-source alternative to paid screen-recording tools like Screen Studio and Cursorful, built to create polished demo videos quickly. It captures through each platform's native APIs ScreenCaptureKit with VideoToolbox hardware encoding on macOS, Windows.Graphics.Capture with per-machine hardware encoding (NVENC/QuickSync/AMF) on Windows, and xdg-desktop-portal plus PipeWire on Linux and records a 60Hz cursor and click track alongside the video for precise post-production editing. The built-in editor offers smart zoom fragments with auto-suggested zooms based on click activity, follow-cursor zoom, customizable cursor styles and motion effects, face-cam picture-in-picture, background composition (gradients, images, blur, padding), and named presets that bundle look, face-cam, cursor, and export settings together. Captions are generated fully on-device using whisper.cpp with no cloud dependency, and the app is entirely local-first, storing projects in the OS app-data directory with no account required. Export supports MP4, WebM, and GIF at multiple resolutions and frame rates. Capptivo is built with Tauri, Rust, and React, and released under the MIT License — though bundled FFmpeg sidecars are GPL-licensed and carry separate redistribution terms.
