About LibrePhotos

LibrePhotos is a self-hosted, open-source photo management service powered by modern machine learning. It supports all photo types including RAW files and videos, and provides automatic face recognition and clustering, object and scene detection, semantic image search, reverse geocoding, and event-based album generation. The backend is built with Django 5, PostgreSQL, and Django-Q2 for background job processing, while the frontend uses React 18 with TypeScript and Vite. A React Native Android mobile app is also available. Machine learning features use face_recognition, scikit-learn, hdbscan, im2txt for image captioning, and places365 for scene classification. LibrePhotos is deployed via Docker and Docker Compose with Nginx as a reverse proxy, and Kubernetes manifests are also provided. It supports multiple users, timeline views, metadata search, and internationalization via Weblate. A live demo is available at demo1.librephotos.com.
