Open-source implementation of Apple's AirPods protocol, unlocking exclusive AirPods features like listening modes, ear detection, and battery status on Linux and Android.
LibrePods is an open-source project that reverse-engineers Apple's proprietary AirPods protocol, bringing AirPods-exclusive features to non-Apple platforms. It enables changing noise control modes, ear detection, accurate battery status, head gestures, conversational awareness, AirPods renaming, and more on Linux and Android. Advanced features like accessibility customization, hearing aid configuration, and Bluetooth multipoint connectivity are available primarily on Android via VendorID spoofing, which makes the device appear as an Apple device to unlock additional protocol features. Planned features include Find My integration, head-tracked spatial audio, and heart rate monitoring for AirPods Pro 3 and later. LibrePods is built with a manually written core including Bluetooth manager classes and UI, with select non-critical components (like Head Gestures logic) AI-assisted. The project maintains an active Discord community for reverse-engineering discussion and is licensed under GPLv3.
