Privacy-focused Signal-compatible messaging app for Android with encrypted local storage, advanced security controls, and Google-free notification support.
Molly is an open-source hardened fork of Signal for Android designed for users who want stronger privacy, security, and control over their messaging data. While remaining fully compatible with Signal's network and contacts, Molly adds unique security enhancements such as passphrase-protected local database encryption, secure memory wiping, automatic app locking, disappearing call history, advanced backup management, and support for SOCKS proxies and Tor. The project also provides Molly-FOSS, a completely free and open-source variant that removes proprietary Google dependencies and supports UnifiedPush notifications and OpenStreetMap-based location sharing. Molly supports multi-device linking, encrypted backups compatible with Signal, reproducible builds for transparency, and optional Android logging controls. Widely used by privacy-conscious individuals, security professionals, journalists, activists, and open-source enthusiasts, Molly delivers a more secure Signal experience without sacrificing compatibility.
