Open-source, self-hosted music streaming server designed to be the easiest to set up, with zero-configuration remote access, P2P discovery, and server federation.
mStream is a self-hosted music streaming server built around ease of setup and unique discovery features. It automatically retrieves album art for a music collection and offers Quick Sync, a free VPN-like zero-configuration remote access service powered by Iroh, letting users reach their server from mobile apps without setting up port forwarding, DNS, or SSL. Its P2P Discovery feature can download music discovery data from other mStream servers to surface similar songs outside a user's own collection, and servers can federate with one another for shared read access to each other's data, extending discovery into actual streaming. mStream runs in a public mode by default for easy setup, becoming password-protected once a user account is added. As of v6.20, releases ship as standalone platform bundles rather than Electron apps, with a desktop tray app (start-at-login, Quick Connect) or a headless `mstream-server` binary depending on platform. The feature set includes torrent client integration, YT-DLP-based YouTube-to-audio downloads, DLNA support, automatic backups, transcoding, Auto DJ, lyrics search, and remote Jukebox Mode control. It ships official Android and iOS apps, Docker support (maintained by LinuxServer.io), and is licensed under GNU GPL v3.
