Cross-platform open-source GUI for yt-dlp to download videos, audio, subtitles, and metadata from hundreds of websites without using the command line.
Open Video Downloader (formerly youtube-dl-gui) is a simple, cross-platform desktop application that lets users download videos, audio, subtitles, and metadata from hundreds of supported websites, not just YouTube. It provides an easy-to-use graphical interface around yt-dlp so users never need to touch the command line. The app supports full video or audio-only downloads, automatic subtitle and metadata saving, quality control for resolution and output format like MP4 or MKV, and full playlist downloading. Custom output paths and filename templates are supported, along with smart download queueing to avoid overloading the system. Authentication is supported via browser cookie files, basic auth, and video passwords. Both the app and yt-dlp update automatically, and the interface adapts to light or dark system themes. Built with a Vue 3 frontend and a Rust backend powered by Tauri, Open Video Downloader is available for Windows, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux in multiple package formats including AppImage, deb, and rpm.
