Web app and CLI tool for recoloring images, GIFs, and videos with any custom color palette, using pixel-snapping or smooth palette blending.
Palettum is a web app and command-line tool that recolors images, GIFs, and videos using any custom palette of the user's choosing. It offers two recoloring modes: snapping each pixel to its closest palette color, which suits pixel-art styles, or blending the palette as a smoother filter effect. The tool includes built-in support for popular color schemes like Catppuccin, Dracula, Nord, and Gruvbox, alongside fully custom palettes. Palettum is written in Rust, with the web app's core recoloring logic compiled to WebAssembly for in-browser processing, and the CLI built as a standalone Cargo binary. The underlying color-matching engine uses the CIEDE2000 color difference formula alongside custom fast trigonometric approximations for performance, with smoothing handled via inverse-distance-weighted or Gaussian interpolation in L*a*b* color space, and palette extraction adapted from established modified median cut algorithms. It can be installed via Homebrew on macOS, downloaded as a precompiled binary from GitHub Releases, built from source, or self-hosted via Docker.
