About restic

restic is a fast, secure, and efficient open-source backup program supporting Linux, macOS, Windows, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD. It is designed around five core principles: easy to use, fast enough to run daily, verifiable so restores can be tested, secure via encryption for confidentiality and integrity, and efficient via deduplication so incremental snapshots only store new data. restic stores backups as encrypted snapshots in a repository, which can be hosted on a local directory, SFTP server, HTTP REST server, Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, OpenStack Swift, or any service supported by rclone. Repositories are encrypted using strong cryptography, making them safe to store in untrusted environments. Backups can be restored via restic restore or browsed interactively by mounting the repository as a FUSE filesystem. Binaries are reproducible from source. restic is licensed under BSD 2-Clause and has an active community forum on Discourse.
