Back to HomeFree, open-source messenger with end-to-end encryption by default for text, voice, video, and group calls. No ads, no trackers, no data to sell.
Signal is a free and open-source messaging app built around the Signal Protocol, widely regarded as the gold standard for end-to-end encryption and used by WhatsApp, Google Messages, and others under license. Every message, call, and video chat is encrypted by default, with no exceptions and no ability for Signal itself to read your conversations. The app minimizes metadata collection through features like sealed sender, and Signal the nonprofit organization collects almost no data about its users beyond the phone number and account creation date required to operate the service. Features include disappearing messages, screen security, a username option so you can connect without sharing your phone number, encrypted group chats and calls, and encrypted SMS-style messaging. Signal is developed and maintained by the nonprofit Signal Foundation, funded by grants and donations rather than advertising or data sales, and its code is fully open source and independently audited. It's available on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux, with messages synced (not stored unencrypted) across all your linked devices.
