Open-source, end-to-end encrypted photo and video backup app with cross-platform sync, secure sharing, and 1GB of free cloud storage.
Stingle Photos is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted media gallery application providing backup, secure sharing, and cross-platform sync for photos and videos without sacrificing everyday convenience. It's the successor to the earlier SafeCamera app, built around modern encryption using XChaCha20 and ECC public-key cryptography via the well-vetted Libsodium library, developed in collaboration with cryptographers from the ZCoin crypto team. All photos, videos, and their metadata are encrypted client-side before ever reaching Stingle's servers, so the provider retains only the bare minimum of account metadata email, registration date, payment plan, and device/file counts with no ability to access actual photo or video content even if compelled. Key features include full on-the-fly encryption for video recording and playback, fingerprint and Face ID unlocking, the ability to capture photos and videos without unlocking the app, automatic background backup and cross-device sync, album organization, and secure end-to-end encrypted sharing with friends and family. Registration requires only an email and password to keep accounts as anonymous as possible. Stingle Photos is 100% free and open source, including 1GB of free cloud storage, with paid tiers only for additional storage no ads or third-party tracking libraries are included. It's released under the GPLv3 License.
