Free, open-source, offline-first platform for organizing, tagging, and managing local files, with no cloud, database, or vendor lock-in required.
TagSpaces is a file management and note-taking platform built to help people organize files, photos, notes, and documents using tags, entirely offline and without a login, backend, or database. Tags and metadata are stored either directly in filenames or as plain JSON sidecar files, so organization travels with the files themselves and works with any existing folder structure. The app supports over 50 file formats with built-in viewers, including PDFs, images, video, audio, ePub, 3D models, and fonts, plus a Markdown/HTML/TXT note editor and a to-do list feature. TagSpaces runs natively on Windows, Linux, and macOS via Electron, has Android and iOS builds through Capacitor, and includes a browser extension (Web Clipper) for saving web pages as local files. Since there's no built-in cloud service, users can sync their file libraries with any provider of their choice — Dropbox, Syncthing, a NAS, or S3. TagSpaces is dual-licensed, with the core Lite edition open source under AGPL-3.0 and a proprietary Pro edition offering advanced features under a separate EULA.
