Fast, offline-first desktop API client for REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and SSE, with no telemetry and no cloud lock-in.
Yaak is a fast, privacy-first desktop API client for working with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and Server-Sent Events, built with Tauri, Rust, and React to stay lightweight and offline-first. It imports existing collections from Postman, Insomnia, OpenAPI, Swagger, or Curl, and lets users filter and inspect responses using JSONPath or XPath. Authentication support covers OAuth 2.0, JWT, Basic Auth, and custom plugins, with sensitive values protected as encrypted secrets stored in the OS keychain. Requests can be organized into workspaces and nested folders, with environment variables for switching between dev, staging, and production, and workspaces can be mirrored to the filesystem for version control in Git or syncing via Dropbox. The app supports dynamic template tags (UUIDs, timestamps), built-in and custom themes, and a plugin system for extending authentication, template tags, or the UI. Yaak explicitly avoids telemetry, VC funding, and cloud lock-in, with development funded through community-purchased licenses and sponsorships. It's released under the MIT License, though community pull requests are currently limited to bug fixes unless explicit maintainer permission is given for other changes.
