Self-hosted YouTube inbox that shows only videos from channels you actually follow, with no Google account, no API key, and no algorithmic recommendations.
YT Zero turns YouTube into a simple, self-hosted reader for the channels you've chosen to follow, requiring no Google account and no YouTube API key. It reads public YouTube RSS feeds and stores subscriptions, watch progress, history, playlists, tags, and rules entirely in your own SQLite or PostgreSQL database, giving you a chronological inbox instead of an algorithmic home feed. Videos can be scheduled into watch-later buckets, archived, tagged with inherited channel tags, and sorted automatically via rules, with support for multiple isolated household profiles, including child profiles with watch-time limits and content restrictions. An optional yt-dlp integration plugin can automatically download videos to disk and play them in YT Zero's own built-in player instead of the YouTube embed, enabling instant seeking and offline playback with smart retention rules to manage disk usage. Additional features include a dedicated Shorts feed, optional SponsorBlock segment skipping, optional DeArrow clickbait-title/thumbnail replacement, live and upcoming stream tracking, and flexible authentication (none, shared, per-profile, OIDC, or proxy headers). A companion browser extension, YT Zero Enhance, upgrades embedded playback with chapters, SponsorBlock, and picture-in-picture. YT Zero can be deployed via Docker Compose, as an Unraid Community App, in a Proxmox LXC, or natively on Debian/Ubuntu via systemd, and is released under the AGPL-3.0-only License.
